He initiated his Islamic studies at one of the oldest Islamic seminaries within the UK, Darul Uloom Birmingham. After his initial few years, Shaykh furthered his studies at Darul Uloom Bury under many illustrious scholars obtaining an array of Ijazahs in the sciences of Hadith, Fiqh, Tafseer and Usool among others. After graduating as an Alim, He decided to further expand his studies on Hadith research and contemporary fiqh (jurisprudence) under the tutelage of the renowned Hadith scholars Shaykh Abdullah Yusaf Al Judai, Mufti Abdal-Fattah Al-Bezzim and Shaykh Hussam-Uddin Farfour.
Shaykh Yusuf now serves as a senior member of the board of scholars for a UK shariah council based in London known as The Imam Islamic Judiciary. He is a qualified CBT practitioner (Cognitive Behavioural Therapist). He has vast experience in dealing with mental health along with complex marriage related issues. He is currently the managing chaplain in a complex prison. He has spent well over a decade serving as a civil servant working with vulnerable adults within this sector. He has over a decade of Imam/pastoral experience, working with people from all walks of life. He is an advocate and believer in the empowerment of Muslim women and has worked on numerous projects nationally on domestic violence and forced marriages. Shaykh also specialises in anti extremism training and dialogue from an Islamic theology perspective.
He possesses ijazah from within the UK and Egypt in the Hafs an Asim narration and Warsh An-Naafi. He is a senior visiting Imam and Khateeb at various Mosques across London, including Edmonton Islamic Centre (north London) Shaykh has been in this role for over 8 years, in this time he has delivered lessons on Hadith and Tafseer and various series on spirituality. The Shaykh is well known for his motivational lectures and speeches, traveling far and wide with his encapsulating and unique style of speaking. He also has media experience and has presented and participated in TV programs on Islamic TV Channels and radio stations covering a range of contemporary topics. He has worked with Islam Channel, IQRA TV, British Muslim TV, Salaam Radio, and Unity FM amongst others.
